Water System Update
As of 11:00 AM – Sunday, July 19
The Kittery Water District continues to respond to ongoing water system issues associated with excessive water usage from a significant customer leak and an additional water main break on Gerrish Island Lane, Kittery Point.
Although some customers may experience discolored water, color and appearance fall under the non-enforceable National Secondary Drinking Water Regulations and are considered aesthetic issues. Plant treatment chemistry and water production remain within State requirements.
Repair work on the water main break on Gerrish Island Lane is ongoing. A section of customers may remain temporarily without water service while repairs are being completed. Other customers may experience fluctuations in water pressure, temporary service interruptions, or discolored water as conditions within the system continue to stabilize.
Customers are encouraged to use caution when doing laundry, cleaning, and other household activities while discoloration remains present.
The Kittery Water District remains in regular communication with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard regarding the ongoing customer leak and is receiving updates as additional information becomes available.

A limited supply of bottled water is available for customers in need at:
