NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Private and Special Law 2021, Chapter 2, and Title 35-A, Chapter 64 of the Maine Revised Statutes, specifically 35-A M.R.S. § 6413, the Board of Trustees of the Kittery Water District has called a special districtwide referendum election to establish the District’s initial debt limit.
The Kittery Water District has not previously established an initial debt limit pursuant to 35-A M.R.S. § 6413. Following consideration of the District’s existing and anticipated capital improvements, infrastructure needs, financing requirements, and existing indebtedness, the Board of Trustees has proposed an initial debt limit of $75,000,000.00, subject to approval by the legal voters of the District.
PUBLIC HEARING
The Kittery Water District Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing regarding the proposed initial debt limit on:
Wednesday, December 16, 2026, at 4:30 PM
Kittery Town Hall Council Chambers
200 Rogers Road
Kittery, Maine 03904
Members of the public are invited to attend and provide comments regarding the proposed debt limit.
REFERENDUM QUESTION
The following question will be submitted to the voters:
“Do you favor establishing the debt limit of the Kittery Water District at $75,000,000.00?”
Voters shall indicate YES or NO.
Approval of the proposed debt limit would establish the District’s initial debt limit for borrowing purposes in accordance with applicable law. Approval does not, by itself, authorize the District to borrow the full $75,000,000.00.
