Water System Update

As of 7:00 AM – Sunday, July 19

To Our District Customers,

Please be advised that we continue to experience excessive water usage due to a significant leak from one of our customers. This has created turbulence within our distribution system, resulting in discolored (brownish) water in some areas.

In addition, we are responding to an additional water main break. Repair work is currently underway; however, a section of customers is temporarily without water service while repairs are being completed.

The water remains safe to use and drink. The discoloration is an aesthetic issue caused by sediment being stirred up within the water mains and is not considered a health concern. We do, however, continue to advise customers to use caution when using water for laundry, cleaning, and other household purposes until the system has stabilized.

The Kittery Water District remains in constant communication with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) and is receiving regular updates regarding the ongoing situation.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore normal service as quickly and safely as possible. We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Thank you.
