The Kittery Water District will be completing road work necessary to install a new water main on Walker Street (between Dame Street and the PNS Gate 1 intersection).
Construction is expected to begin on Monday, April 29, 2024 and will occur Monday – Friday during the hours of 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
The utility work will take approximately 2 weeks to complete.
Monday April 29, 2024
On Monday, April 29, 2024, traffic on Walker Street heading inbound to the PNS Gate 1 Entrance will be closed to vehicular traffic past Jones Avenue. During this time, traffic will be detoured down Jones Avenue to Government Street.
Traffic flaggers and a police detail will be stationed throughout the area directing traffic to reduce traffic impacts and maintain the flow of vehicles.
After Monday, April 29, 2024
Following the one-day detour on April 29, 2024, traffic on Walker Street heading inbound to the PNS Gate 1 Entrance will be reduced to one-lane approaching the intersection.
Additional information to note:
- Four parking spaces in front of the Dance Hall will be restricted as “no parking” due to the proximity of the water main and road work in this area.
- For approximately two days, there will be no access to the municipal parking lot from Walker Street.
- The parking lot will remain accessible from the Government Street side.
Equipment operation and construction within the confines of roadways is very difficult and safety is always a concern. Please follow all posted signage and be mindful of those working within the roadways.
Due to the location and nature of this project, the impact of construction will be real and the patience of our local businesses, residents and the community workers will be needed.
